Agencies on alert as Motorola calls North Asia pitch

Motorola's media business in North Asia has gone into review, a little over a year after the company consolidated media duties in the region with MindShare.

The review, scheduled to take place in the next two weeks, is part of a rolling pitch conducted by Motorola in all markets outside the US, with another pitch covering India and Southeast Asia expected within the next two months.

Four agencies are thought to be contesting the North Asia business, which includes Greater China, Japan and Korea: Carat, MindShare, Starcom and Universal McCann.

Motorola -- the world's big-gest maker of mobile phones, which recently lost pole position in the key China market to European rival Nokia -- said in a statement that it is looking to appoint two global media AORs, though it is unclear whether this will limit the options open to local offices.

Global media duties used to be divided between MindShare and Universal McCann, though this changed at the beginning of the year, when Carat bagged the US business from Universal.
