AFECA members push for a united industry platform

SINGAPOREThe founding members of the Asian Federation of Exhibition and Convention Associations (AFECA) are consolidating resources to promote the Asian exhibition and convention industry as a collective voice.

Its first assembly meeting was spearheaded by the Singapore Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (SACEOS) in September 2004. The association was then invited by International Exhibition Logistics Association (IELA) to participate in the IELA Congress in New Delhi early this year and it also participated at IMEX in April. SACEOS executive director Jansen Tan said: "At the international exhibitions, AFECA has invited our members to participate and promote their associations or companies, and brochures were given to visitors." AFECA's goal is to establish a strong and authoritative body to represent Asia's interest and to provide a focal point to tackle regional issues facing the industry. Its 21 members are from mainland China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. New members from Bahrain will be joining soon. AFECA wants to promote exhibition terminology and encourage common industry standards in Asia. "We aim to speak the same language in the Asian exhibition industry," said Tan.
