Aegis moves into retail with Apollo

AUCKLAND - Aegis Media has acquired retail and promotional marketing firm Apollo Marketing.

The company will not be rebranded, and the current management team - Ruth Money in New Zealand and Will Riley in Australia, both general managers - will remain in place. Aegis would not reveal what it paid for Apollo, but said the deal worked well for both parties.

“We’re looking to make similar buys in 2008, but retail is a tough sector to move into. Most companies are too niche to make sense as acquisitions,” said Patrick Stahle, CEO of Aegis Media Asia-Pacific. “Buying Apollo will help our clients get closer to where consumers are making purchasing decisions.”

Apollo Marketing was founded in 1995, and a Sydney office was launched in 1999. The company employs 40 people across both markets.

“Apollo fits very neatly into our strategy of putting digital into the heart of what we do,” Stahle said.
