Aegis at advanced stage of Heartland talks

BEIJING - Aegis Media is believed to be in advanced acquisition talks with leading China-based independent out-of-home specialist Heartland Media.

With sources indicating a deal could be signed by the end of the year, it remains unclear how Heartland would be integrated into the Aegis fold, which includes Posterscope.

The move follows a recent decision to shift three key accounts from Posterscope to Heartland: Olympic sponsor adidas, BMW and Pernod Ricard (Chivas, Martell and Ballantines).

“Aegis is undergoing a buyout for Heartland. I don’t know if (Aegis) will merge the two, but it will depend on how Heartland operates post-acquisition,” said one source, who declined to be named.

Patrick Stahle, CEO, Aegis Asia-Pacific, said: “I can’t comment on (the client shift). With a view to acquisitions, I cannot comment on that either. But we’re constantly in talks with agencies, I believe we’re currently in talks with around five to eight agencies in Asia-Pacific.”

Posterscope China MD Marcus Ma and Heartland founder and CEO Jay Lin both declined to comment.
