Aegis appoints Bhasin to lead South Asia

ASIA-PACIFIC - The management team of Aegis Media Asia-Pacific has suffered mixed fortunes with the news that Singapore chief executive officer and regional director Richard Leong will leave the company, but the vacant South Asia CEO position has been filled with 20-year Lowe India veteran Ashish Bhasin (pictured).

Leong will leave the network a little over a year after he joined from BenQ Siemens, where he was strategic marketing director.

He will continue to fulfil his duties for the next four months before moving on.

I am considering my options. I need to make sure my next move is the right one, said Leong.

There is a good crowd at Aegis, but for me, the media business is too price-driven. I want to move on to a role that is less about talking dollars and cents, and where I can use my 20 years of planning experience to solve client problems.

On the bright side, Aegis has replaced outgoing South Asia chief executive Richard Halmarick with Bhasin, who brings to an end 20 years of service for Lowe India.

The former Initiative India president will also run Aegis’ Southeast Asia operation, and will be based in Mumbai.

Aegis has not been the big presence it should be in this part of the world, and I am relishing the challenge to help the network fulfil its potential, he said.

Halmarick announced his departure after a 10-year spell with Aegis in February He had spent two years in the South Asia CEO role.
