Adidas Singapore hires Unilever's Chew to head marketing

SINGAPORE - Adidas has filled its vacant marketing director position in Singapore with the hire of Unilever's Marcus Chew (pictured) as the German sportswear brand looks to close the gap on market-leading rival Nike.

Chew teams up with Janice Lee Fang, the sportswear retailer's brand communications manager, who joined the company from PR firm Icon in February.

He replaces James Tan, who left to join Levi's as regional marketing communications manager.

Chew said: "My ambition is pretty straight forward. Make adidas the number one sporting brand in Singapore."

Chew leaves his post as senior brand manager at Unilever Singapore where he headed up marketing for the Home & Personal Care Division, which included brands such as Sunsilk, Dove, Clear, Lux and Lifebuoy.

Like adidas, Unilever is the number two player in its in category in Singapore, trailing market leading FMCG firm Procter & Gamble.

Chew said that he has no plans to change adidas Singapore's agency partners, which are the globally aligned pairing of TBWA (creative) and Carat (media).
