According to one insider, Acer called the review to “answer its marketing problem, which is that it’s not the leader in the market”.
Sources add that at least four agencies are pitching for Acer’s business, including several 4A agencies, and Acer has focused the review on its above-the-line work.
The pitch is being handled out of Shanghai and a result is expected to be announced in the next few weeks.
Earlier this month, Acer was officially named the world’s number-two PC maker, dislodging US-based Dell from the slot. According to IDC, Acer had 14 per cent of the globe’s PC market share in this year’s third quarter, up from 11.4 per cent a year ago.
Hewlett-Packard remains the world’s leading PC manufacturer, with 20.2 per cent of the worldwide market. Lenovo and Toshiba are the fourth and fifth global PC makers, with 8.9 per cent and 5.2 per cent of the market, respectively.
