Accor to open 60 new hotels in China by 2009

HONG KONG This year will be a record for Accor's development in China, with the company's emphasis divided equally between new luxury and upmarket properties, and economy hotels.

Accor Asia Pacific managing director, Michael Issenberg, in Hong Kong last month during the annual World of Accor roadshow, said the company was on schedule to launch 20 hotels this year, while another 40 hotels were either under construction or in the final planning phase.

The 60 new hotels will be spread across China and include deluxe Sofitel and Grand Mercure hotels, mid-market Novotel and Mercure hotels, and economy Ibis hotels.

Accor currently operates 43 hotels in mainland China and Hong Kong.

With the addition of the new hotels, the total network is expected to grow to more

than 100 hotels by the end of the decade.
