Accor Hotels is boosting its portfolio in Australia and New Zealand in both the economy and luxury sectors.

It has opened the first international-standard hotel complex outside the central business and airport districts of Auckland, at Ellerslie in the city's southern suburbs.

Costing NZ$30million (US$15million), it consists of a four-star 147-room Novotel and a three-star 100-room Ibis to provide accommodation for delegates attending Ellerslie Convention Centre events.

The complex's three function rooms offer capacity for 280 delegates. The Ellerslie properties increase Accor's NewZealand network to a total of nine hotels.

"A company can have all their delegates staying at one location, while still being able to provide differing room categories," Accor general manager for New Zealand Mr Nigel Harper said. Accor's priority in Australia is to add a Sofitel in Sydney.

"We are confident of being able to launch Sofitel in Sydney in the post-Olympic period," director of communications Mr Peter Hook said.
