Accor adds three China properties

HONG KONG Accor is continuing its aggressive expansion in China with the signing of management agreements for three hotels, including two new Sofitels, in the Shanghai area and in Guangzhou.

Sofitel Guangzhou will be Accor's first Sofitel in the southern China commercial hub. Located in the city's central business district, the 470-room hotel is scheduled to open in late 2007. It will have a 1,000 sqm ballroom plus prefunction area. Sofitel Sheshan Resort Shanghai is located in Songjiang District, 20 minutes from Hongqiao Airport. It is also scheduled to open in late 2007. The 318-room hotel will have a 2,000 sqm spa complex. Meeting and event planners looking to organise events outside Shanghai can utilise the hotel's 5,000 sqm of space, including a pillarless ballroom accommodating up to 800 guests for dinner banquets and five additional breakout rooms. Accor also signed a contract for the 52-room Pudi Boutique Hotel Fuxing Parc Shanghai. Accor senior vice-president Asia Pacific and CEO Greater China, Brian Deeson, said: "Accor is actively targeting the CEI sector in China with a number of new hotels. The important differentiation that Accor brings to the CEI sector in China is the variety of locations and product. "For instance, when we open Sofitel Guangzhou in 2007 it will appeal to top-end meetings organisers who want a prestige product in the heart of the city. Later this year, we will open a Novotel at the new Baiyun Airport Guangzhou aimed at midmarket groups. "We see great potential in the incentive market, particularly in destinations such as Xian, Shanghai and Beijing. China is one of the hottest destinations in the world and with a whole range of luxury and mid-market hotels, CEI organisers have the perfect reason to come to China."
