SINGAPORE – General Mills brand Betty Crocker and PR agency Havas Worldwide Siren built a giant, 130-square-metre, SG50-themed cupcake mosaic. The dangerously sugary endeavour took place on 1 August and involved more than 1,600 cupcake mixes. The mosaic was assembled and displayed on the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre Concourse. The event spun an epic bake-off session that produced 29,610 cupcakes. We are assured that the cupcakes were kept scrupulously clean and were later donated to a charity, Food from the Heart.

Last Friday, Edelman Hong Kong became a creepy place with zombie Mickey, enlivened Roy Lichtenstein paintings and vampire Mario. Little skeletons and the world's tiniest Hulk added to the fun at the 'Annual Spooktacular Halloween Party'. Kudos go to marketing and PR comms director Andres Vejarano for the scariest Minnie Mouse we have ever seen.
Last night, leading Malaysian business and financial paper The Edge threw a party to honour its 20th anniversary. The '90s-themed event started at The Roof @ First Avenue and moved on up to Stratosphere (the building's literal roof) for fireworks and champagne.
It seemed like an unlikely premise for a contest: What Ikea product do you look like? Post a photo on Facebook. Yet while you sit there contemplating which footstool you best resemble, 127 Malaysian Ikea fans have dressed up and posted photos on Facebook in a delightful display of creativity and self-deprecating humour. The prizes? Ikea vouchers worth RM800 for the Grand Prize winner and RM200 vouchers for the runners-up. The contest, which was launched as part of a larger Campaign in Malaysia to relaunch its flagship store in Damansara Mutiara was the brainchild of Ikea Malaysia and its agency, BBH Asia-Pacific. The two-week campaign, which ran last month, reached more than 1.5 million Facebook users in Malaysia and generated more than 20,000 likes, comments and shares. Here are a selection of the entries.
OtterBox, maker of amphibious phone cases, has given Singapore's male and female water polo teams their Preserver phone case and taken pictures of the teams cavorting with said phone cases as part of its ad campaign. While we get the connection between waterproof phone cases and water polo, we hope the teams won't jeopardise their winning streaks by taking selfies during matches despite OtterBox's hope that the cases will "encourage the team to capture precious moments of their time at all their significant competitive games on their mobile phones and this includes the upcoming SEA Games".
EDIT (5:45pm): The original article stated that OtterBox was "sponsoring the team at the SEA Games". The brand has since gotten in touch to clarify that they are not sponsoring the team at the games but just sponsoring the team in the "ramp up to the SEA games". As they declined to disclose the nature of the 'sponsorship' we've decided to avoid the term altogether.

It's an annual tradition of ours: The 'Separated at birth?' column in the year-end issue. So without further ado, here's our selections for this year: some eerie, some admittedly a bit of a stretch. The December/January issue, stuffed with more fun year-end content (and even some serious year-end content), will be out right around New Year's.
