Move and win roundup: Week of April 6, 2020

DDB, Ogilvy Singapore, Rice Communications, L'Oréal, Condé Nast, Havas, Adobe, AMO Global, Twitch, TikTok, Wunderman Thompson, Ogilvy Australia and Entropia round out our weekly collection of people moves and account news.

Leo Tsui, formerly chief digital officer of DDB Group Hong Kong and president of Tribal Worldwide Hong Kong, has been promoted to chief business officer across the entire agency group. In his new role, Tsui is tasked to create business opportunities for the agency and clients. Tsui will work with other recent appointees including Adrian Tso (group strategy director), Maggie Cheung (group business director), Koman Ko (group business director) and Marco Lam (ECD). 

Ogilvy has appointed Corrina Murphy as chief martech Officer in Singapore. Murphy will accelerate Ogilvy’s martech innovation by consulting with clients, pulling together agency capabilities and partners to provide solutions and governance. She will also join the local Ogilvy leadership team and head the digital transformation capability in Singapore. She has over fifteen years of experience in the marketing technology and service industry, and was last VP, client success and operations for Zeta Global, London. 

Rice Communications is now the agency on record for General Assembly, a provider of education and career transformation solutions. General Assembly has been operating in Singapore since 2015, and provides design, marketing, technology and data education to individuals and companies.

Condé Nast has announced the appointment of Norman Tan as editor-in-chief of the new Vogue Singapore. Tan joins from Esquire Singapore, where he was editor-in-chief for over two years. He also launched Buro Singapore in 2015. Bettina von Schlippe also comes onboard as publisher of Vogue Singapore; she has previous experience with Condé Nast Russia and BBDO. Through a partnership with Indochine Media, Vogue Singapore will launch with an English-language print issue, a website and a presence on all relevant social platforms.

Shelly Chiang has been promoted to APAC CMO for L'Oréal after 14 years at the company, most recently as APAC digital director. Chiang will be based in Hong Kong. 

Havas India has won the integrated communications account for Fortis Healthcare. The mandate includes creative, media and healthcare duties, and the business will be managed out of the agency's Delhi office.

Adobe has appointed Simon Tate as APAC president, a promotion from his previous role of SVP, APAC. Tate has been with Adobe for over six years and is praised bu international president Paul Robson as being an "experienced leader with a track record of delivering strong performance and growth in APAC". He previously held leadership positions at Salesforce and Dell. 

Havas-owned communications and strategic advisory network AMO Global has appointed Grace Zhang as Asia managing director. Zhang was one of the founding partners of Newgate Communications in Greater China, and she has over 15 years of experience in the industry. She also has a proven track record in advisory around complex financial transactions in Asia. 

Twitch has hired Ricky Chanana as its head of sales for Australia and New Zealand. Chanana brings over 15 years of experience in buying and selling advertising, having held senior leadership positions on the agency side and most recently the managing director for Unruly ANZ. Twitch has plans to hire more talent in Australia to help service advertisers and their media agency partners.

Weng Wai Koh has joined TikTok as head of channel revenue partnerships for Southeast Asia. He was previously government media director for Publicis Media, and head of marketing communications for Singapore Press Holdings. In his new role, he will work with brands, agencies and resellers to bring their campaigns and communications onto TikTok. 

Wunderman Thompson Indonesia has been appointed lead brand agency by Danone-AQUA following a 4 way pitch involving incumbent VMLY&R, Bates, Grey and Wunderman Thompson. Wunderman Thompson says it emerged the winner after 2 highly contested rounds and will now be responsible for developing and delivering all brand communication campaigns for Danone-AQUA. In addition, they will also play the role of lead integrator agency among Danone-AQUA specialist partners.

Following a competitive pitch, Ogilvy Australia has extended its relationship with Nestlé to undertake a range of work for the Uncle Tobys Masterbrand and Cereals business. The agency has worked on Uncle Tobys Snacks for more than 15 years, and its expanded remit now includes leading the Uncle Tobys Masterbrand development and executing a suite of work for sub-brands such as Traditional Oats, Oat Sachets, Plus and Breakfast Bakes. The win marks the first work with its Masterbrand and Cereals portfolio. Work begins immediately.

Havas Group India has appointed Neeraj Bassi as chief strategy officer, effective immediately. Bassi moves from Publicis India, where he was chief strategy officer and managing partner. He has over two decades of experience across categories and agencies like Ogilvy, Wunderman Thompson, McCann as well as market research networks such as TNS, IMRB and NFO.

Entropia Sentient, the marketing consultancy's big data and consulting division, has hired Vamsi Vanka to lead its tech consulting division. Reporting to partner, Sourabh Agrawal, Vanka will be tasked with articulating the digital transformation needs of clients, evolving strategies to deliver better CX to their customers, and defining digitisation roadmaps for them. Vanka joins Entropia from Infosys, focused on the India and South East Asia markets as a digital strategist. Prior to that, Vanka worked in performance marketing, UX/UI, and digital campaigns serving as chief media officer at Razorfish India, Tribal DDB, and Starcom IP.
