UM appoints new CEO for UM Japan

TOKYO – Joe Nakamura has been appointed CEO for UM Japan. He joins from his role as business director of Ogilvy & Mather Japan, and takes over from former UM managing director Kaoru Matsui who has moved on to a new role as CEO of Mediabrands Japan.

Effective from 2 February, Nakamura will lead a team of 90 located in the agency’s Tokyo and Osaka offices. He will report to Jim Hytner, UM's G14 president based in London. As CEO, he is tasked with driving the business, offering direction and leadership both locally and as part of the global management team. Nakamura will also be a member of the McCann World Group board in Japan.

Commenting on the appointment, Hytner said, “Joe’s experience gives him an incredible insight into working with brands. We look forward to having him lead the team in Japan and drive business for UM and its clients.”

Nakamura’s career started in 1992 with McCann Erickson Hakuhodo Japan as a media buyer. He statyed with the network until 2009 when he joined Ogilvy China as GM of Red Wasabi.  He was appointed to lead Ogilvy Japan earlier this year.
