Taiwan women's health magazine gets a facelift

TAIPEI: Publishing company Adkom has acquired Health Plus, a Taiwanese women's title with a readership of 220,000.

Taiwan women's health magazine gets a facelift

The magazine will be led by newly-appointed editor-in-chief, Jevian Sun, the former head of the Taiwan edition of Cosmopolitan.

Health Plus will have its design revamped for next month's issue, and will feature health and medical news, as well as beauty, fitness and relationship issues.

Sun said women's magazines such as Health Plus were popular "particularly in Chinese society where there are still too many taboos and a distinct lack of straight speech on the intimate issues faced by today's women".

According to Adkom publisher and chief executive officer, Olivier Burlot, the magazine was expanding its base of advertisers and had already gained support from companies such as cosmetics giant L'Oreal.

The magazine sees foreign titles such as Elle and Marie Claire, as its key rivals for ad dollars. "Adkom's strength is to bring strong personalities to head the magazines it operates, said Burlot.

He added that the acquisition of HealthPlus would bolster Adkom's portfolio, which included World Geographic and Action Asia.

The company also owns internet wedding portal 2happy2.com.
