The summer of 1999 proved to be a turning point for me, as I joined Leo PR Malaysia as an intern to explore if PR was a career I wanted to develop. Four years later, I'm still with Leo PR, loving every moment of it.
What is the mood right now in the market you're in?
Like an Energiser Bunny - it keeps going and going and going. More and more clients today are beginning to appreciate the value of PR and are now incorporating it as part of their marketing plans.
What do you enjoy about your work environment?
Crazily enough, the stress. In a twisted way I thrive on stress levels and enjoy continuously raising the bar, delivering the best to clients. It helps that I also have a good team that works well together.
What is your career inspiration?
Having the satisfaction of seeing each project successfully completed. When you are involved from scratch, conceptualising plans and strategy, bringing the project to life and then seeing the results, it's inspiring to know you were a part of it. I also get inspired when I hear people talk about a project I've worked on - especially when they don't know I contributed to it.
What piece of advice would give to a PR 'rookie'?
Common sense coupled with perseverance and passion can get you a long way. Acting like a sponge and soaking up as much as you can is also a big plus.
Your biggest mistake?
Trying to handle more than I'm able to. When I try to raise the bar in delivering quality work, I understand that I need to let go once in a while.
What has been your greatest achievement?
Becoming a consultant in just over two years. It was scary when I accepted the position because I wasn't able to fall back on my team consultant. It would instead be me leading the accounts and being the face and brains of the team.
