NEW YORK - Omnicom Group is reportedly planning to retrench up to 3,500 jobs within its global network, amounting to almost 5 per cent of its staff, by the end of the year.

Omnicom poised to retrench 5 per cent of workforce
It is as yet unclear which areas of the network will be affected. Notably however, Chrysler incumbent BBDO was obliged to make significant staff cuts in Detroit last month as the struggling car manufacturer announced plans to reduce marketing spend in a bid to stay afloat.

A spokesperson for the holding company in Asia-Pacific was unable to comment on the implications for the region.

A spokesperson for Omnicom in New York said in a statement that owing to the current economic conditions, group companies had reviewed staffing levels in line with current business requirements, and that “some, but not all, will have to make adjustments”. The spokesperson declined to comment on the specific disciplines or locations that would be included in the restructuring.

Omnicom is the industry’s largest holding company, encompassing DDB, TBWA, OMD, and Fleishman-Hillard among other advertising, media and public relations firms.
