She will report to Mark Jarrett, general manager at OMD Sydney.

Buchanan (pictured) was most recently with MPG as its group client service director, leading two accounts, namely SingTel Optus and Virgin, across all channels including offline, online and SEM.

Commenting on the appointment, Jarrett said, “We are very pleased to have Aimee on board; she has great experience leading large teams and businesses into areas beyond the traditional, this is exactly the sort of thinking we’re looking to develop on the Tourism Australia account.”

Buchanan has more than 11 years of media experience in the Australian market, and has predominantly worked on large scale telecommunications clients, managed complex accounts, focused on content creation and the leveraging of new channels.

“I’m excited to join OMD and to be working on this envied client, Tourism Australia. Both OMD and Tourism Australia continually challenge conventional media thinking and this role offers great opportunities to do innovative work in a category I’m personally very passionate about – travel,” she said.

OMD took over the Tourism Australia account from Carat in July, after the tourism board appointed OMD for its global media services account, covering media planning and buying, search marketing and optimisation, and social media marketing in June.

It is reported that the full account will be worth US$190 million.
