Olympics Watch - Day Seven

BEIJING - Puma emerged as the big brand winner over the weekend after Jamaican runner Usain Bolt broke the world record in the 100 metres wearing Theseus II spikes.

Bolt then held up the shoes for the cameras in the subsequent photoshoot.

Liu Xiang, meanwhile, dashed the dreams of a huge roster of sponsors by pulling out of the 110 metre hurdles. One of the biggest names in China, Liu has been the face of brands such as Yili, Nike, Visa, Lenovo, Cadillac and Bank of China.

The Olympics may be huge in China, but early signs are that they are leaving Taiwan’s consumers cold. Viewing figures from Nielsen suggest minimal interest in the Games so far.

Meanwhile, Speedo continues to lead our table of brand performance following the success of swimmers wearing its LZR Racer suit. Visa also features on the back of its sponsorship of record-breaking Olympian Michael Phelps.

And votes are coming in thick and fast on Media’s online poll of Olympic ads. Don’t miss your chance to have a say on the best and the worst of this year’s work.
