Microsoft poaches Motorola chief to head China
In joining Microsoft, Leung departs from his role as Motorola’s president of Asia-Pacific and regional senior vice-president and general manager of networks and enterprises.

Leung, who has been in the industry for more than 20 years, is charged with expanding Microsoft’s brand in China as well as leading the company’s strategy and development in the market.

He will oversee operations in Microsoft’s sales, marketing, research and development, legal, finance and services departments in China and report to senior vice-president of Microsoft and president of Microsoft International Jean-Philippe Courtois.

Leung said he aims to capitalise on China’s rapidly expanding internet market and help Microsoft grow with the market.

“The opportunity for Microsoft to grow in the Greater China Region, and to help the people and society here realise their full potential is unparalleled,” he said.

Leung replaces acting chairman and CEO Ya-Qin Zhang, who will remain with Microsoft as its corporate VP and chairman of its China Research and Development Group. Zhanh has also been appointed vice-chairman of Microsoft GCR and will work closely with Simon to direct Microsoft’s strategy in China.
