BEIJING - Grey's Beijing office has taken charge of a Chinese New Year project for smartphone maker Xiaomi without a pitch, according to sources.

The scope of work involves advertising on traditional media, which will also be magnified via social media.

The focus will be on communicating the brand spirit and youthful energy of Xiaomi in a campaign that will run until February 2014.

The Chinese brand has claimed 5.4 per cent of China's smartphone market in the third quarter of 2013, according to data from Kantar Worldpanel.
