Asus reveals the wafer-thin Zenbook UX21 and UX31

Asus’ newly revealed Zenbook is a staggering 3mm thick at its narrowest point and it’s no bubble-butt at the rear either, where it still only measures in at an impressive 9mm.

Compare this with the MacBook Air's 3mm-17mm dimensions and you begin to get an idea of just how skinny the Zenbook really is.

Both the 11in UX21 and 13in UX31 models will be available at launch with a choice of Intel i5 and i7 processors, up to 256GB of SSD storage and Bang & Olufsen designed speakers to boot.

Display-wise, the 11in UX21 will have a 1366x768 screen resolution while the slightly larger 13in UX31 will pack a 1600x900 resolution display.

Connectivity enthusiasts will appreciate the SD card reader on the 13in model, while both offerings will sport microHDMI, miniVGA and USB 3.0 ports.

Apple iOS 5 jailbroken to perfection

iOS 5 is a great jump forward for Apple’s mobile devices, poaching all the best bits from Android – but it’s still not perfect.

The guys behind IntelliScreen have now created IntelliScreenX, which sees the flaws of Apple and fixes them, with quick selection buttons at the top of your pull-down for easy access to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, for example. Their tweaks even let you see your e-mails, Twitter and Facebook feeds – meaning you can be in Mail and jump between those other areas for information, without leaving the message you’re writing.

This video clears it all up.

Asus Eee Pad Slider gets UK release date

If our review of the Asus Eee Pad Slider left you with an insatiable desire for some touchscreen/keyboard action then you’ll be pleased to know that you can nab a 16GB or 32GB model for £430 or £480 respectively, on 24th October.

Available from PC World and Currys, the 10.1in Tegra 2-powered slate will be tempting for those of you who want to do something a little more productive than slicing up virtual fruit on your morning commute. Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind.

Nokia 800 Windows Phone 7 press shots spotted

We can't wait for Nokia World next week. Not only did Steve Ballmer let slip Nokia's plans to debut its Windows Phone 7 efforts at its annual event, but now leaked press shots claiming to be the N9-inspired 800 – or Sea Ray – have appeared on Pocket Now, showing Nokia's first WP7 handset in all its official glory.

It feels like it's been a long time coming, but if Ballmer is to be believed, we may be treated to the 3.7in Windows Phone 7 candybar next week in blue, black and pink hues. As well as the Sea Ray, Nokia is also expected to pull the curtain back on a handful of other purported WP7 smarties. Read more...

Asus unveils quad-core 10.1in Transformer Prime tablet

Asus is storming the tablet scene with sexy keyboard armed treats and its just unveiled the big guns – the 10.1in Transformer Prime. The 8.3mm thin slate will be running the Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core Kal-El processor and sporting USB and mini-HDMI ports.

The quad-core doesn't just mean power but considerably better battery life, which is exactly what tablets need. The Transformer Prime – a bit of an unfortunate name, since Google just throws up links to the 1980s cartoon – will be very likely packing Ice Cream Sandwich, too. Read more...

Motorola RAZR 2011 REVIEW

Thin isn’t the word. At 7.1mm, Motorola’s RAZR makes your average wafer look like it ought to have a chat with Dr Atkins – stat. As for other smartphones, Samsung’s Galaxy S II is cutting a 8.49mm profile, while Apple’s iPhone 4S has really let itself go at 9.3mm. Does it feel thinner? Palpably, although you’ll need to get over the chin that houses the RAZR’s 8MP camera (more on that later). Read more...
