Coca-Cola launches Fanta NeoTrio, its second new Fanta flavour in the year, while Pepsi unveils a big campaign in the battle for Thailand's soft drink market. Coca-Cola's Fanta Blueberry Splash, launched earlier in the year, was said to be the key factor behind Fanta's gain in Thailand, growing at twice the rate of the segment to a share of more than 70 per cent nationally.

Chase Manhattan Bank, which awarded its account to BBDO Hong Kong earlier in the year, launches a TV campaign to reinforce the shopping and dining privileges offered by the bank's credit card. With BBDO's unconventional approach in devising the creative strategy, the two TVCs generate positive word-of-mouth among viewers.

10 YEARS AGO

J. Walter Thompson is named Asian Agency of the Year by Media, outpacing other agencies such as Leo Burnett, Bates Asia, DMB&B and Saatchi & Saatchi.

15 YEARS AGO

The Asian Wall Street Journal is charged with contempt of court in Singapore for an article in its December 1-2, 1989 issue. Singapore attorney-general Tan Book Teik claims the article, reporting on a libel suit brought against the Far Eastern Economic Review by Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, scandalises both the High Court and the Singapore judiciary.
