CAREERS: Mok Hoyan, the manager of marketing and communications at MTV Networks Asia - What it's like to work for ... MTV

Who's the boss? My boss is Jessica Kam, VP, network communications, MTV Networks Asia and deputy GM, MTV China. The 'big boss' is Frank Brown, president of MTV Networks Asia-Pacific.

How many staff? MTV Asia-Pacific has over 700 staff.

Marketing responsibilities? Initiating activities to raise MTV's profile in Hong Kong for both trade and consumers, to support ad sales-driven marketing activities. Also, to explore every possible strategic marketing partnership locally. I also oversee trade PR activities for North Asia.

Who's the competition? MTV is the No. 1 global media brand and the largest TV network in the world. Having said that, we consider all regional or local music channels as our competitors.

How do you get a job at MTV? Through job applications or referrals. MTV also offers internships for college or exchange students. (Hint: the best way, though, is to smoosch the MTV bosses you run into at one of the many MTV parties.)

Are department or office transfers possible? Sure. Internal transfers are quite common, either between departments or offices, and are encouraged for staff career advancement.

Any training offered? We have an MTV Networks Campus, offering classes for developing staff's skills and knowledge. We also have various functional conferences to exchange ideas and best practices around the region. For example, we have a marcoms conference in Asia each year for marketing and PR folks.

Pay and perks? Competitive, I believe. On top of that, you're never short of invitations to concerts and parties, and occasionally you get to meet world famous artistes face-to-face!

Long hours? It's not exactly a 9-to-5 kind of environment. When we're working on big events like MTV Asia Awards and concerts, we often have to work overtime or over weekends, but I'm either too excited or too stressed to think about the long hours then!

Business travel? Occasionally. Last year, I attended the MTV Asia Awards (Singapore), CCTV-MTV Music Honors (Beijing), MTV Style Awards (Shanghai), MTV Guangdong launch (Guangzhou), and the International Communications Conference (London).
