Cannes: Asia-Pacific brings home 19 Lions in Design category

CANNES - Dentsu Tokyo won two Gold Lions in the Press category to bring the total of gold Lions for the region to six. A further 10 silver and three bronze Lions were also awarded to Asia-Pacific agencies on the night.

The Grand Prix in this category was awarded to Happiness Brussels in Belgium for its 'IQ font' entry developed for Toyota.

Japan, Thailand, New Zealand, India and China walked away with six gold Lions on the night. Dentsu Tokyo hauled two gold Lions for 'The oneder brain!!' for Yoshida Hideo Memorial Foundation and 'Thunder night fever! Art book for haiku-reading event' for Mitsubishi Estate.

New Zealand pulled in a Lion for Oakfield Press 'The Vigneron' by Alt Group Auckland and Thailand for Creative Juice\ Bangkok (TBWA) Bangkok's 'Tamiya business card' for Siam Tamiya.

Publicis Communications Mumbai won gold for its own 'Beer/ Mountain/ Sky' campaign.

Finally DDB Shanghai also won a gold Lion for its 'Green pedestrian crossing' execution for the China Environmental Protection Foundation.

Out of 17 silver Lions awarded on the night, agencies in the Asia-Pacific region walked away with 10.

Leo Burnett Hong Kong accounts for two with 'Hidden sound campaign' for Zoo Records and 'Unequal childhood paper-cutting' for the Christina Noble Children's Foundation.

Japan earned three silver nods thanks to Dentsu Tokyo's 'Cutter art of Olfa' for the Olfa Corporation, Hakuhodo Kettle Tokyo's 'The wall sale' for Sony Marketing Japan and ADK Tokyo's 'Countdown to beauty' for Hoyu.

New Zealand won two silver Lions for 'Eraser' by Colenso BBDO Auckland for Alzheimer's New Zealand and Alt Group Auckland's 'The Vigneron centenary wine' for The Oakfield, its second Lion for this client in the Design category.

'Beer coasters' for Asia-Pacific Breweries by George Patterson Y&R Brisbane also silver along with 'X Exhibition' for SGDA by Senseteam Shenzhen.

The Design category also delivered two bronze Lions for the region. Dentsu Kansai Osaka won two bronze Lions for 'Launch of Episteme Skincare range' for Rohto Pharmaceutical and 'Asian Wave - Adfest 2009 exhibition in Japan' for the Yoshida Hideo Memorial Foundation/ Advertising Museum Tokyo.
