Mansingh said in a statement that he was looking forward to offering strategic service to the organisation’s staff and clients, based on a career “dedicated to promoting India and its role in the global marketplace”.

A spokesperson for Apco in Hong Kong confirmed that Mansingh would focus on the India market, where the firm has offices in New Delhi and Mumbai, but said that he would also act as a “global resource”.

The spokesperson added that while Mansingh was an expert in Indian public affairs, he would not be concentrating on any particular industry sector in the initial stages of his appointment.

Over the course of a forty-year career, Mansingh has served as India’s high commissioner to the UK and Nigeria, and as deputy chief of mission in India’s embassies in Kabul, Brussels and Washington DC. He has also acted as joint secretary in the Ministry of Finance’s Department of Economic Affairs, as Director General of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, as dean of the Foreign Service Institute of India, and as secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.

He is currently president of India’s World Cultural Forum, professor emeritus at the Foreign Service Institute of India, and is a board member of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies in New Delhi, the Governing Board for Development Alternatives, the India, and the India Council for Sustainable Development.

Based in Washington DC, Apco covers sectors such as finance, business, media, public opinion and society, government and public policy.
