Telenor's DiGi moves to Mindshare, regional pitch results pending

MALAYSIA - Sources have confirmed that Mindshare Malaysia has won the media account for Telenor-owned DiGi Malaysia following a multi-market pitch.

Telenor's DiGi moves to Mindshare, regional pitch results pending

Starcom Mediavest Malaysia was the incumbent agency on DiGi and has retained the telco's digital account.

"We have been DiGi's longest-serving media partner. It's been a nine-year journey of bringing the brand to digital heights," said Piyee Wong, MD, SMG Malaysia. "I wish them the best".

Last year, DiGi Malaysia appointed NagaDDB as its creative agency of record and Havas Worldwide for corporate brand duties.

The details of the other markets involved are still being settled, according to sources. However, it's understood that the agencies involved are Mindshare, OMD and Starcom Mediavest Group.

Telenor has recently had a senior management reshuffle in Asia following the promotion of Asia-Pacific CEO Sigve Brekke to global president and CEO of the Telenor Group. He was replaced by Morten Sørby who was CEO of Telenor-owned Uninor in India (now rebranded to Telenor India).

Earlier in the year, the telco group appointed new CEOs for DiGi Malaysia and Dtac Thailand, with Lars-Åke Norling moving from his post as CEO of DiGi to Dtac, and Albern Murty stepping up from COO of DiGi to CEO.

In Asia, Telenor is also present in Pakistan and Myanmar. It operates in Bangladesh as Grameenphone.

It is understood that the incumbent agency for dtac is OMD while SMG is the incumbent for Grameenphone.

The agencies involved have been contacted on the regional results but were unable to comment at this time.
