Herbalife takes Singapore by storm

The 2007 Herbalife Asia Pacific Extravaganza marked Singapore's biggest corporate event to date. The organisers wanted the fourday event to consist of a series of workshops, meetings, seminars and teambuilding activities.

Herbalife takes Singapore by storm

With projected visitor numbers for the show reaching 17,000, Herbalife executives from
14 countries across Asia Pacific wanted the event to provide product distributors and new
business partners with the inspiration, tools, techniques and methods to help them achieve
better results in the year ahead.

Challenges
The event was the first time Singapore Expo had received such a huge number of delegates
at one time, so finding enough chairs was the first task.
Delegates came from many different countries, so the organisers had to make sure every
member of staff at Singapore Expo was effectively bilingual and was able to assist in the
delegates’ native languages of Mandarin, Malay, Cantonese, and some Japanese and Korean.
Security staff also had to be prepared for the rush of enthusiastic delegates each time
an announcement was made about an activity in a certain area.
The organisers were concerned that delegates would be crushed as they surged forward and so constructed railings to guide them.
Finally, the organisers worked with taxi companies to provide an additional supply of vehicles to
serve the needs of the delegates.
They also arranged for SMRT, Singapore’s public transport provider, to increase the frequency of trains at peak times.

Execution
Several renowned speakers appeared during the event. They included professional
motivational speaker, Jim Rohn, who shared his insights into business philosophy.
Delegates also learned more about the future of nutritional science from Dr David Heber,
the director of the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Heber addressed nutritional issues at the ‘Doctors for Herbalife’ session together with Louis Ignarro, Ph.D, a nobel laureate in medicine and member of the nutrition and scientific advisory boards at Herbalife.
Apart from the meetings, seminars and workshops on Herbalife products, there was a
big line-up of pampering and teambuilding activities on offer for the international delegates.
These included a ‘Herbalifestyle day’ where 900 topperforming Herbalife distributors were given
the opportunity to spend a relaxing day at Café Del Mar on Sentosa’s Silosa Beach.
Delegates could relax on deck chairs, go jet-skiing and banana boating, or pitch their
skills against professional beach volleyball and beach soccer players.
For the first time the event also incorporated a ‘Herbalife Idol’ contest where seven finalists from Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, New Zealand, Malaysia, India and Australia used their vocal chords to raise funds for the Singapore Children’s Society.
This marked the Herbalife Family Foundation’s commitment to support children’s charities
around the world.
Through the Herbalife Idol contest, the foundation pledged nearly US$20,000 of the total
funds raised towards the Singapore Children’s Society.
A themed dinner, ‘Dreamscape’, was also held for delegates where the dress code for all attendees was pyjamas or sleepwear.

Verdict
Dato Dr Ronie Tan, vicepresident and managing director of Herbalife Malaysia and Singapore, says: “The Herbalife Extravaganza was one of our most successful events in this region yet.
“Singapore has a fantastic infrastructure with an excellent transport system and a state-ofthe-
art conference facility offered by Singapore Expo.
“This, combined with the strong support we received from the Singapore Tourism Board,
has helped contribute to the success of the Herbalife Extravaganza this year.
“This has also resulted in great feedback from our Herbalife distributors and new business
partners from the 14 countries who attended the event.”
