Google pays tribute to John Lennon with animated Doodle

Google is celebrating John Lennon’s 70th birthday across the search platform and YouTube.

Google pays tribute to John Lennon with animated Doodle

For the first time, Google is making the signature Doodle into a video rather than a static logo. Doodle is Google’s homepage logo that is constantly revamped by artists, in most time, to celebrate different festivals around the world.

John Lennon Google Doodle is created into a music video with his song ‘Imagine’. This marks the first-ever animated video Doodle. Mike Dutton, the Google Doodler said: “A picture is worth a thousand words” still rings true, so I hope a moving picture will help me adequately - and simply - thank John for the memories.”

The animated sequence of the Doodle was hand-drawn. "I wanted the drawing style to have that same naive yet very gestural style that can be found in John’s self portrait sketch. It was also important to maintain a simple style so as not to overpower the music itself," said Dutton.

John’s animated Doodle has been launched over the weekend in the US. Google Hong Kong will start the campaign at noon today on the homepage for the next 48 hours.

YouTube has also dedicated a channel via www.youtube.com/johnlennon for the tribute.
