Asian judges gain prominence at Cannes Lions

REGIONAL - Asian judges have taken a more prominent role in this year's Cannes Lions Festival, with 10 Asians named to the film, press and outdoor juries.

Included in the Film Lions Jury are India's Malvika Mehra, national creative director at Grey India; Japan's Hidenobu Niizuma, senior creative director at Hakuhodo; and Thailand's Paruj Daorai, creative director at Leo Burnett.

The Press Lions Jury will feature India's Amer Jaleel, national creative director, at Lowe Lintas; Singapore's Joji Jacob, executive creative director at DDB and Thailand's Warawut Kaennakham, executive creative director at DraftFCB.

Meanwhile, the Outdoor Lions Jury has four Asians on board with China's Yang Yeo, chief creative officer at JWT Shanghai; India's Santosh Padhi, chief creative officer at Taproot India; Japan's Naoya Hosokawa, creative director at Dentsu; and the Philippines' Melvin Mangada, managing partner/ chief creative officer at TBWA Santiago Mangada Puno.   

Terry Savage, chairman of Cannes Lions, said, “Individually these jury members are exceptionally talented creatives who consistently deliver ground-breaking work; as a team, they make high quality juries who will judge the entries using their combined expertise and knowledge to award and honour the finest creative work.”  

The 58th Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity will be held on 19-25 June 2011.
