Amazon, Google, Facebook, IBM and Microsoft form alliance on AI

The Partnership on Artificial Intelligence to Benefit People and Society aims to come up with best practices on the challenges and opportunities with the technology.

The group will look at ethics, transparency, collaboration, trustworthiness and reliability of AI. However it will not take up any lobbying activities.

Apple is missing from the list of tech companies involved in the partnership.

A statement from the alliance said: "AI technologies hold tremendous potential to improve many aspects of life, ranging from healthcare, education and manufacturing to home automation and transportation.

"Through rigorous research, the development of best practices, and an open and transparent dialogue, the founding members of the Partnership on AI hope to maximise this potential and ensure it benefits as many people as possible."
